2021 Elections – turnout, rejected ballots and results visualised
Results are still coming in, so this post is a work in progress!
With coronavirus pandemic still affecting people’s lives, there was some expectation that turnout in the 2021 elections would be impacted. However it appears that many of the elections that took place in May 2021 saw slight increases in turnout.
This increase in turnout does not however bring these elections into line with the turnout we see at General Elections (67% in 2019). Only the Scottish Parliament election turnout even comes close, at 63%.
Rejected / Spoilt Ballots
A total of 114,201 ballots (approx 4%) were rejected in the first round of the London Mayoral race. A further 327,980 ballots were rejected in the second round.
